Jenna Ortega Rocks A Wednesday-Inspired Look At Met Gala 2023

Jenna Ortega is most known for her role as Wednesday Addams on film, but it appears the character's impeccable fashion sense has also made its way into her real-life wardrobe.

What's an example? Ortega's gothic ensemble for tonight's Met Gala 2023. The high-fashion design not only nodded to Wednesday's style codes with its schoolgirl bow detail at the neck, but it also paid homage to a number of Karl Lagerfeld's design signatures—whose work is being honored in this year's exhibition, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty"—with its black and white palette and abundance of gold chains and pearls.

Thom Browne created Ortega's chic Victorian-inspired outfit, which included a waist-cinching lace-up corset that fits the actor like a glove. It also included preppy accents like knee-high sheer black socks, black-and-white patent-heeled brogues, and a dramatic skirt with ruffles that swept behind her along the cream-colored carpet.

This isn't the first time the 20-year-old actress has been sighted in a goth outfit. Last month, the Scream star told the outlet about her admiration for goth culture.
"I've always respected goth culture," she explained. "I've always had a darker sense of humor, but I never felt comfortable expressing it." Now I feel like I can accept such characteristics in myself."

In terms of her normal manner, the actress stated that her Wednesday role has influenced her. In a recent interview with InStyle, she stated that "Wednesday changed my taste a lot." I'm having trouble getting her off of me, at least in terms of clothing."

"It's also something I've always wanted to do," she continued. I just didn't think I could. I feel like there were always a lot of voices and perspectives that I put too much stock in."
Despite how at ease she may have appeared at the Met tonight, the actress admitted in the April issue of ELLE that posing for red carpet photos is not always when she feels most at ease.

She remarked, "There are times when I feel like my job is almost not worth it because of all the other side things that go along with it. "I don't want to feel like a walking billboard, which is a very, very dangerous sensation because you then feel like you have less and less control over your life. I feel as though I've seen or know many people who have caved into such pressure. I'm not interested in belonging to anyone or anything.

Ortega chose a hot pink Valentino outfit for the event in 2022 that had a tiny dress, matching tights, and heels. It's not surprising that Ortega's two Met Gala 2023 appearances are so dissimilar. Since assuming the lead role in the Netflix original series which is coming in April 2023.
